Fancy Pants

The weather was a little cooler today, so we pulled out the" fancy pants". I saw this idea- of adding ruffles to the bottom of outgrown jeans- and had to give it a try. Aaron calls them clown pants, and Dallin laughs at them and thinks they are funny. I have to admit I love them.

(I did make a coordinating peasant top/dress to wear with the pants, but it needs to be tweaked a little bit (Brooke has no shoulders, so she was sporting the off-the-shoulder look) next time I get the sewing machine out.)

We love you summer! Please don't leave us!

I can't tell you how sad I am that summer is winding down. I am not ready. Here's a little of what we have been up to lately.

We've been playing hard and I love it. Stay a little longer summer!

Oh my girlie girl...

Brooke is as girlie as they come. She loves all things pretty and fights me when I make her wear pants or shorts. If you are wearing jewelry she will be your best friend, and if you let her wear it, even better. She's always saying to people "see my pink nails?", "see my pretty dress?". I went visiting teaching the other day and brought Brooke, the first thing that was said was by Brooke- no hello just "see my fingertails?" (yes, she calls them fingertails.)
But I can't lie, I love it that she loves pretty things. She has been watching a clip off youtube lately from Cinderella. It's the bippity boppity boo song where the fairy godmother is working her magic. Brooke oohs and aahs throughout the whole thing and then screams when Cinderellas ratty dress turns into her beautiful one. She is so excited about it.

But what I don't love, is that she loves my make-up. I don't always remember to put it up out of her reach, but I am getting better. Especially after the last incident.
Mascara? Lipgloss? What's the difference?
She has eyeliner, lipgloss, mascara, and a few shades of eye shadow on. Mostly around her mouth. I caught her red handed and she got in trouble- hence the red face and tears. Brooke, Brooke, Brooke...

Happy Birthday Tanner!

August 2nd we celebrated Tanner's 7th birthday. Yes 7th! I can't believe it. Where has the time gone? What happened to my squeezable little baby?
Isn't he so sweet? Even with a scratched nose?
Grandma and Papa Van Gieson stopped in our their way to Utah and Arizona and joined us for birthday cake. Tanner picked out an ice cream cake (all ice cream no cake). It was pretty yummy I must admit.

Next week Tanner will start the 1st grade and be gone all day everyday. I am not sure I am ready for that. But he is very excited. And in one short year he will be baptized and be a Cub Scout. Crazy stuff! He is still my sweet little boy though. We love you Tanner!

Part 4- The last leg of our trip.

We checked out the Bean Museum on BYU Campus. A little creepy, but a hit with the kids.

We spent two days in South Jordan with our friends the Walkers. It was so good to see them and have the kids play.
Brooke and Navie were two peas in a pod. Clicking around in their heels and pushing their strollers.

Brooke loved seeing all of Navie's pretty things.
Dallin and Bronx picked right up where they left off when they played together last summer.

The bed head princesses.
We also spent an afternoon swimming. Look at those cute boys! We need to be neighbors again!

At the park near Lauren's. Aaron took the kiddos there while I got everything all packed up for our long drive home.

We made a lunch stop at some dinky town near the Idaho/Utah border. We stopped at a park and ate our "delicious" gas station food. We had some "surprise" visitors while we were there. My parents were on their way down to Utah and this was where we crossed paths. We let them surprise the kids, they were pretty excited to see them. And they brought Tanner his birthday presents (it was 2 days before his birthday), so Tanner was really excited about that.

On our way home we stopped in Boise for the night. Katie and Andy were in Utah so we stayed at a hotel. The kids were really excited to stay at a hotel, and especially one with a pool. It was a quick stay but really fun.
Brookie in her little hotel crib.
Vegging out watching a movie.

The next day we made it home. The way home is always the hardest. I swear the last three hours stretched on FOREVER. But it was still a great trip, we managed to see most of both of our families and some great friends. What more could you ask for?

Part 3- A day at Temple Square

We spent a day checking out the sights at Temple Square in Salt Lake. The kids had never been, so there was a lot we wanted them to see. There was a TON to see and do, I feel like we just barely scratched the surface.

We checked out the two visitors centers.

And the Conference Center.
And the Tabernacle. The boys thought the organ pipes were pretty neat. I remember being quite fascinated with them when I was little- thinking, what are those things anyways, sound comes out? Huh?
We checked out the temple grounds- beautiful!

We took a little tour of the Church Headquarters building, and checked out the view from the top.

Our last stop was the Church History Museum. They had a kid friendly area which was really nice. My kids were definitely ready for something kid friendly. I would have liked to spend more time in the museum and actually read things, but it wasn't happening. Someday...
My pioneer boys.

We also checked out the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and watched the Joseph Smith movie. I was really impressed, it was really good. That was our day on Temple Square.

Summer Vacation Part 2- Hangin' with Lauren and Jared

After we finished up with the Van Gieson Reunion we spent 5 more days in Utah. During most of that time we stayed with Lauren and Jared at their home in Highland. They definitely showed us a good time. They said their goal was to show us and the kids how fun Utah is to visit, so we come and do it at least once a year. I think they sold us on the idea.

They took us boating for an afternoon. We all loved it- especially Tanner.

Brooke isn't so sure about the wind in her eyes when we are going fast, so she spent a lot of time with a towel over her head when the boat was moving.
Tanner and Lauren trying out the tube.
Wait? Where's Lauren?
Tanner and I trying to hang on.
She wasn't so sure about the fast boat, but she was more than happy to jump in the middle of the lake.
Notice Dallin is missing. We couldn't convince him to get on the tube, and the only time he made it in the water was when Aaron tossed him in.
Dinner at Lauren and Jared's.

They took us for a 4-wheeler and Ranger ride up in Spanish Fork Canyon. Jared grew up there and his sister and her family now live in their childhood home- so we checked out that area. It was really beautiful.
Jared, Dallin, and Jace (a nephew). Dallin had no hesitation getting on the 4 wheeler- much different from the tubing.

We did a little nature walk up to an aspen grove.

Watch out Brookie!
Dallin was in heaven.

We also checked out a fun pool in Lindon. We actually ended up going their twice, since the kids had so much fun.
Tanner has turned into quite the little fish. He's getting to be a pretty good swimmer.
Dallin was much more comfortable in this water. He had a great time.
Brookie the water baby. She loved it! And she didn't even mind when she got dunked or jumped off the side and went under water- much better than her brothers at this age. They both had to do beginner swim lessons twice since they wouldn't put their faces in the water. Hopefully Brooke will keep this up.
Brooke was in heaven with Lauren's pretties. (I am not exactly sure where her shirt went...necklaces count right?)
And Tanner of course was on cloud nine when he got to play some video games with Jared.

Thanks for the great time Lauren and Jared. Watch out because we'll probably invade your place in not too long.
